Speaking at the Bioenergy Asia Summit 2026

REURASIA’s chief executive, Maxime Droit, speaks at the 10th Biogas, Biomass & Bioenergy Asia Summit 2026: The Philippines Focus, in Manila on 17 September. The subject is waste-to-energy at the San Pablo landfill.

The session

Twenty minutes on the summit’s second day, in the afternoon programme between 2 and 5 p.m., at Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila. The organisers will confirm the exact time when the final programme is published. Their working title for the slot is “Waste to Energy Project in San Pablo Landfill”, and they have left room to sharpen it before the programme closes.

Why this subject

Waste-to-energy in the Philippines is discussed far more often than it is built, and the gap is rarely the technology. It is feedstock that turns out to be wetter or more mixed than the study assumed, host commitments that do not survive a change of administration, and permitting sequences that nobody costed. A talk drawn from a real site is worth more to that audience than one drawn from a brochure.

Our own work in San Pablo City is the containerised anaerobic digester built with Alterna Verde and the German climate organisation atmosfair, launched in April 2026 and since listed in the Gold Standard Impact Registry. The case for recovering energy from waste still has to be made site by site, which is the point worth making in a room like this one.

The summit

The organisers expect more than 350 senior representatives from government agencies, project developers, financial institutions, international organisations and technical groups. The bioenergy summit runs alongside the 10th Waste Management & Waste to Energy Asia Summit 2026: The Philippines Focus, and both sit inside the 10th ASEAN Energy Transition & Decarbonization Summit 2026, held in Metro Manila on 16 and 17 September.

The policy behind the room

The Philippine Energy Plan 2023–2050 sets renewable energy at no less than 35 per cent of the generation mix by 2030 and 50 per cent by 2040. What that means for biomass, biogas and waste-to-energy specifically is the subject of our reading of where the sector actually stands in 2026.
