The problem

Airspace is the asset, and the organic fraction consumes it fastest.

The same fraction drives the odour, the leachate load and the community pressure that make each expansion permit harder than the last.

Tipping fees pay to bury material that has an energy value, and the landfill gas it produces later is a liability rather than an income.

What usually applies

  • A composition and tonnage study of the incoming waste, because the case rests on what share is separable digestible organics.
  • Diversion of the organic fraction to an on-site anaerobic digester, financed and operated under a lease, where the separated stream is proven.
  • A business case stated in airspace saved, disposal cost avoided and gas or power produced, with the sorting cost counted honestly.

What usually does not

  • Mass-burn incineration of mixed municipal waste. The Philippine policy position is unsettled and the economics at private-landfill scale rarely close.
  • Digestion of mixed waste without separation. Contamination decides the outcome, not tonnage.
