Biosfair: a biogas pilot for San Pablo City’s organic waste

REURASIA, Alterna Verde Corporation and the German climate organisation atmosfair launched the Biosfair Project on 7 April 2026 — an anaerobic digester designed for about 1,200 tonnes of segregated organic waste a year, commissioning expected by the end of 2026.

SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna — REURASIA Management Corporation, Alterna Verde Corporation and atmosfair gGmbH launched the Biosfair Project on 7 April 2026 during a local stakeholder consultation at Alterna Verde’s Solid Waste Ecological Recovery and Recycling facility.

The pilot turns segregated organic waste into biogas through anaerobic digestion. At pilot scale the facility is designed to process about 1,200 tonnes of organic waste each year from public markets, food establishments and municipal waste streams, and is expected to generate roughly 250,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity annually for the waste-recovery operations and nearby site activities, while producing organic fertiliser and avoiding the methane that organic matter releases in a landfill.

What the pilot is meant to prove

Biosfair is not a mixed-waste incinerator. Its environmental case rests on four operating disciplines: consistent segregation at source, proper handling of the digestate, control of methane leaks, and transparent monitoring. The project tests those disciplines at a decentralised scale, on a defined organic feedstock rather than on mixed municipal waste.

For REURASIA the pilot is also the working reference for containerized digester leasing: a plant financed and operated over a long horizon, with the client supplying and controlling the waste. The next milestone is evidence. Once commissioned, independently verifiable results on waste diversion, electricity generation, fertiliser quality, methane control and community safeguards will decide whether the model can be responsibly replicated.

Where the project stands

Fabrication of the containerized digester modules is complete, and the project is listed in the Gold Standard Impact Registry as a planned project developed with atmosfair (GS23708, Containerized Anaerobic Digestion for Renewable Energy and Fertilizer — Philippines). Commissioning is expected by the end of 2026. Results will be published here when they are available.
