Man’s primary source of energy consumption is from fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, and coal. Although these resources are cheaper and easy to use, their sustainability is at stake. One long-term concern with the use of nonrenewable resources is their lack of sustainability. Nonrenewable are limited resources that will either run out or become too difficult to have. Although these are significant sources of power for industries and infrastructures, one prominent concern of using nonrenewable is the pollution they generate. Usually, these harmful levels are caused by coal power plants and power derived from burning petroleum products.
Aside from that, vast amounts of fuel reserves, public health issues, rising costs, oil spills, environmental problems, and energy crisis are some of the significant issues, which can devastate both human life and the environment. Fortunately, it is not yet the end of energy sources.
What Role Does Renewable Energy Play?
Renewables, on the other hand, is the opposite. These are energy from sources that are naturally replenishing but flow-limited. It comprises solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, tidal, geothermal, biogas production, and biomass. These resources produce clean energy, meaning less pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to climate change. But how?
Innovation brings down costs and starts to deliver on the promise of a clean energy future, without compromising reliability and sustainability. Going into sustainable energy is one that can meet the growing energy demand. Renewable energy can be naturally supplied, develop energy efficiency, and have the opportunity.
Due to the growing demand of energy consumption worldwide, authorities are looking for energy crisis solutions. No wonder how renewable energy solutions are increasingly seen in most countries right now.
Energy Transformation in Philippines
Harshavardhan Reddy Nagatham, a power industry analyst at GlobalData., said that “Growing population is driving electricity consumption in the Philippines.” He also added a statement that “As a result, new investment in capacity addition is urgently needed.”
Accordingly, it can be observed that the peak demand in the Philippines has been expanding every year, and a lot of new projects and proposal schemes are expected, especially in renewables.
Recently, renewable resource usage has begun to rise. According to Secretary Alfonso Cusi of the Philippine Department of Energy, Philippines readies new renewable energy policies to curb coal dependence (2019). DOE vowed to fast-track the implementation of renewable energy policies, following President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to reduce its reliance on the coal-nonrenewable energy source.
The Bottom Line
We understand the ultimate message. As we are facing a pandemic that threatens everyone, a solution to energy crisis is needed. Although renewables are much like seasonal changes in the amount produced, scientists are continually addressing these challenges, working to improve the feasibility and reliability of renewable energy resources.
The world needs to make fundamental changes in their energy consumption patterns. Hundreds of millions of lives, countless species and ecosystems, the health and viability of the economy, and the future habitability are at stake here. Let’s focus more on having a sustainable energy solution. Because, without shifting towards an alternative energy source, we could soon be facing a significant energy crisis and a disaster for our planet’s health.
